For 37 years painting in the same studio in a small garret at the top of a massive terrace house in Northbridge , Perth, Western Australia.
Mostly painting in oils from pastel drawings or from small drawings in a sketchbook, developing compositions in layers of colour and subject matter. The finished paintings combine various techniques and ideas from memory, history and current affairs.
Using landscape as a stage for a figurative symbology gives the ability to explore colour and light and other formal elements and take a journey into unexplored territory, with a thread leading back to the real from the imaginary.
